Rebels fired rocket-propelled grenades on the offices of the Salvadoran army's joint chiefs of staff Monday, killing one person and wounding eight others, the military said.

The military complex in the northeast section of the capital was hit by at least three grenades, the army said."There were nine wounded, including three soldiers and six civilian employees of the Defense Ministry," Defense Minister Gen. Rene Emilio Ponce told reporters. "We have just received information that one of them has died."
