Funeral is scheduled Wednesday for Lowell G. Dewey, a doctor of optometry who helped research the development of contact lenses. He died Aug. 21, 1988, in a local hospital.
Dewey, 63, was owner of Dewey Optical in Sugar House and practiced optometry in the area for 35 years. He was a member of the national panel of advisers for Coo-perVision Optics and participated in the development of contact lenses.Born in Beaver, Dewey graduated from Granite High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah. He received a doctor of optometry degree from Pacific University in Oregon in 1952.
During World War II, Dewey served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Shamrock Bay. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and five Gold Stars.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 S. Third West. Friends may call at Deseret Mortuary, 36 E. Seventh South, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
