Nephi has adopted a new law enforcement program so officers can better cover the night hours in Nephi.
City Council members voted unanimously to hire five reserve officers to help cover the city more adequately at night. Officers hired will fill in rotations so the city has adequate coverage at all times."Other places use this plan rather than pay overtime," said Nephi City Police Sgt. Chris Neilsen.
The city has five officers, including the police chief.
Five officers applied for the positions. All of those were approved by the council. All have already had Police Officers and Standards training and are certified. Neilsen said the men, while already employed by other law enforcement agencies, are willing to work around the shifts they have with their full-time employers.
