A rainstorm caused electricity to go out in parts of South Salt Lake, West Jordan and Olympus Cove just as the big game between the University of Utah and BYU started about 8 p.m.The storm caused wires to come down all over the valley, according to a Utah Power & Light official.
Three traffic accidents were reported along 2100 South during the first hour of the blackout. Two occurred near 700 East and one at South State. No injuries were reported. Signals were out at both intersections.
UP&L said all crews were working to repair the storm damage. The largest outage appeared to be in West Jordan due to a downed wire at 7800 S. 1300 West.
The power company gave no estimate of when all wires would be up and functioning, but electricity was restored in many areas by 9 p.m.
