Fans of "Mary Tyler Moore" can learn lots of trivia about the show on Monday night's 20th anniversary special on CBS.
For instance, Ed Asner was terrible when he first auditioned for the role of Lou Grant but was given another chance. Moore's character originally was written to be a divorcee rather than a single woman, but network executives thought that would be too scandalous."Mary approved of it," said Alan Burns, one of the show's creators. "But CBS had a corporate heart attack when we suggested it. And they said, `They'll think that's she's divorced Dick Van Dyke.' "
