The Glenn Miller Orchestra swings into southern Utah this week for a performance Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in Dixie College's Dixie Center. Tickets are $13, with a $2 discount to anyone over 50. For information call 628-7003.
Under Larry O'Brien, the 19-member group will offer recreations of the original Miller arrangements of such pieces as "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," "In the Mood" and "Moonlight Serenade," as well as more contemporary selections that lend themselves to the Miller style and sound. The Miller estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley, who had served as unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Miller's disappearance in 1944.
When the orchestra last performed at the Dixie Center in January 1990, the concert sold out.
