Utah County commissioners Wednesday approved an agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation to upgrade a railroad crossing at 4800 South 625 East near Springville.

The agreement calls for the county and Springville City both to provide 5 percent matching funds for the project. Total cost of the project is expected to be about $176,000, most of which will come from federal funds. The project includes installation of flashing lights and gates and 30 feet of track crossing material. Clyde Naylor, county engineer, said the project should begin in July.

The county recently approved similar agreements for four other railroad crossings in the county.
