First Unitarian Church, 569 S. 1300 East, will celebrate its first 100 years in Utah on Saturday, Feb. 23, with a centennial gala buffet and dance at the Salt Lake Art Center, and on Sunday, Feb. 24, with a public service at 10 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the University of Utah's Olpin Union building.
Reservations for the gala can be made by calling 467-3337 evenings. The Sunday service will include a sermon by the Rev. William F. Schulz, Unitarian Universalist Association president, and music by members of the Utah Symphony and combined church choirs.The church was established Feb. 24, 1891, when 187 people signed the Constitution of the First Unitarian Society. Other Utah congregations include the South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society and two informal fellowships in Ogden and Park City.
