Former Maine Gov. Horace A. Hildreth, who also served as U.S. ambassador to Pakistan and president of Bucknell University, died in Portland, Maine of a heart attack. He was 85. Hildreth, a lawyer, also was a broadcasting executive. He served as president of Bucknell from 1949 to 1953 after leading Maine through reconversion to a peacetime economy following World War II. In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower named Hildreth ambassador to Pakistan, the Moslem country carved out of British India in 1947.
