Three home burglars might have gotten away Monday if only they had a more reliable car.

A man in the 100 South block of 500 East phoned police Monday evening after he heard what sounded like a door breaking and then saw a man walk by his apartment carrying a television. He saw the burglar carry the TV to a car outside, where another man and woman helped him. Then they all jumped into the vehicle for a quick getaway.

But the car wouldn't start.

According to a Salt Lake police report, one of the men put starting fluid into the carburetor while the other man tried to turn over the ignition. However, the car still didn't start.

The woman was told to take her dog and hide in a nearby garage. Moments later, police arrived and arrested her and one of the men. The other man slipped away before police arrived. Officers recovered the TV and other items.
