In second round matches on Thursday, the Bountiful resident, the No. 6 seed in the men's 45 singles, advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Tom Wire of California.In other matches in the 45s, Gale Howard of Minnesota, defeated Salt Lake's Ron Bollinger, 6-3, 6-4; Niese Sie, also from California, def. Utah's Alan Ashton, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3); Peter Bronson of Arizona, the No. 2 seed, beat Utah's Lee Nelson 6-0, 6-3; and Dick Johnson of Missouri, the No. 5 seed, beat Mike Martines of Salt Lake City, 6-3, 6-2.

In men's 50, John Gorsky of New York, beat Utah's Craig McQueen, 6-4, 6-1; Michael Skinner of Minnesota, beat Utah's John Andreason, 6-3, 6-2; and David Weber of New England, the No. 1 seed, beat Hy Saunders of Salt Lake City, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).
