A string of westbound cars skirted the railroad signal to beat the train at the intersection of 4800 South at 180 West Thursday morning.

Most of the drivers who disobeyed the signal may not have looked back to see that one of the cars didn't make it.Brenda Mittag, 31, Murray, was thrown from the car and killed when her car collided with a northbound Denver & Rio Grande train at about 11 a.m. No passengers were in the car.

"From the information we have at this point, the signals were activated prior to the train coming to the intersection," said Murray detective Mark Mehrer.
