Iran's foreign minister will visit for talks Friday as the Soviet Union conducts a flurry of diplomacy related to the gulf war.
Soviet Foreign Ministry spokesman Vitaly Churkin announced that Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati would visit Moscow for talks.President Mikhail Gorbachev met Kuwait's foreign minister Thursday. Sabah al Ahmad al Jabar al Sabah said Gorbachev assured him that the Soviet Union remains committed to U.N. resolutions calling for an unconditional Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait and was pursuing that goal in its talks with Iraq.
"We are satisfied with the pledge by our Soviet friends to firmly adhere to U.N. Security Council resolutions," the Kuwaiti official said.
Iraq's Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz will fly to Moscow and meet with Gorbachev Monday.
