National League Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek became the first $3 million award in arbitration history. Raymond Goetz, who heard the case Wednesday in Chicago, picked Drabek's request of $3,335,000 instead of the team's offer of $2.3 million.

Drabek became the fourth highest-paid pitcher in baseball behind Roger Clemens ($5,380,250), Dave Stewart ($3.5 million) and Bob Welch ($3.45 million).
