War mandates sacrifice, and Wednesday the Utah Legislature paid an emotional tribute to a Utah soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Several lawmakers wept openly as they unanimously passed a resolution honoring Marine Lance Cpl. Dion James Stephenson, who was killed while on active duty in the Persian Gulf. Stephenson's family, including a brother also serving with Marines in the Persian Gulf, was present and thanked all Utahns for their support."The tragic unfolding of events in this war makes us realize that Dion may not be the last Utahn to die in that war," said Rep. Nancy Lyon, R-Bountiful, also noting the resolution pays "tribute to Utah's sons and daughters who left this desert for another desert in the Persian Gulf."

Lawmakers also gave a standing ovation to the Stephenson family.
