An explosion shattered a fast-food restaurant Tuesday in East London, South Africa, injuring at least 25 people, police said. Maj. Trevor Hayes, a police spokesman, said no one was killed. He said the cause of the blast was not known. The explosion occurred at a Wimpy hamburger restaurant in the South African coastal city's central business area. Witnesses said they heard screams from the restaurant and saw injured people being taken away by rescue workers. Hayes said he did not know how many were seriously hurt. Police have blamed the outlawed African National Congress for a recent series of bombings in civilian areas.
