Dennis, who works in Orem City's administrative services, ties a picture of his son, Danny - a serviceman stationed in Germany - to a 20-foot pine tree in the Orem City Center Rotunda (last names of those serving in some units are not released). Going on the theory that a picture is worth a thousand words, Orem officials are inviting residents to decorate the yellow-ribbon-bedecked tree with photos of relatives in active duty in the military. "I would hope that the tree would be covered with pictures soon," said Norman K. Woodhouse, an Orem City councilman who placed the first picture on the tree. His son, Scott, is a combat engineer in the Army and is serving in Saudi Arabia. The city's Human Relations Advisory Commission plans to leave the tree in the rotunda at 56 N. State Street as long as the gulf conflict lasts. Anyone who is interested in putting a photo on the tree should contact the Orem City offices at 224-7035.
