All military personnel serving as a result of Operation Deseret Storm in the Persian Gulf and seven other individuals will be honored at a "We Believe in Heroes" luncheon Friday, Feb. 22, in Little America Hotel.
The Utah Chapter, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, is sponsor of the noon gathering.The luncheon, a culmination of Freedom Week activities, will cost $13.50. Reservations may be made by calling Blanche Peterson, 268-3804, or Barbara Parker at 485-4863.
In addition to recognizing men and women called to active duty because of conflict in the Middle East, the luncheon will also honor:
Ralph M. Broadhead and Deputy Sheriff Blake Wright, who lost their lives fighting a fire last year at Midway, Wasatch County; Shawn Durrant, who rescued a young girl dangling from a chairlift; June and Elvis Evans, who have taken 23 foster children into their home and who have assisted state prison inmates, youths in detention and Edgemont Elementary School children; Chen Hai, leader of 2,500 students from his province in demonstrations at Tiananmen Square; and Staff Sgt. Steven J. Garner, who was involved in rescuing airplane and ground crews during a fire at Hill Air Force Base.
