Utah County Republicans gathered Wednesday evening to celebrate the birthday of the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln.

As part of the celebration, local collector and antique restorer Ralph Wheeler displayed the French coverlet used to wrap Lincoln in after he was shot. The blanket, which Wheeler acquired through an inheritance, still carries Lincoln's blood stains, iodine stains and candle wax from the fateful night. Lincoln, wrapped in the green-and-white-tasseled blanket, was carried from the Ford Theater across the street to the Peterson Boarding House where he later died, Wheeler said.

Wheeler has had the blanket for some time but never had an opportunity to display it the way he wanted.
