A letter found near the U.S. Embassy after it was raked with gunfire claimed responsibility on behalf of leftist terrorists and decried U.S. Middle East policy as imperialist, a German official said Thursday.

No one was hurt in the attack late Wednesday, in which 15 shots hit the outside wall of the embassy. The shots were fired from the other side of the Rhine River, opposite the embassy building.Police found a letter near the scene claiming responsibility for the shooting in the name of the Red Army Faction, which has a long history of attacks against U.S. interests.
