Members of a radical leftist group exploded a bomb at a suburban Mormon chapel to protest the Persian Gulf war, causing minor damage and no injuries, police reported.

The bombing occurred shortly before midnight Wednesday at the chapel in Maipu, a middle class suburb in western Santiago, police said.At the site of the explosion, police found pamphlets of the Leftist Revolutionary Movement saying "No to the imperialist war."

The chapels have been a frequent target of attacks by extremist groups, which call The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "a tool of yankee imperialism."

Church officials, while flatly denying the accusation, say about 90 chapels have been bombed in the past two years throughout Chile.
