The Salt Lake Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to seven with an exciting 3-2 overtime-shootout victory over the San Diego Gulls Wednesday night.
The Eagles blew a 2-0 lead in the third period, but came back to win it in the shootout after neither team scored in overtime. Eagle goalie Warren Sharples made a great save on a shot by 12-year NHL verteran Ron Duguay to preserve the victory."He had me beat . . . it was just a desperation play on my part," said Sharples, who had 30 saves on the night. In the shootout, which featured five shooters on each side, Tim Sweeney and Rich Chernomaz both scored for Salt Lake. Then San Diego's Charlie Simmer beat Sharples, but when Duguay was stopped, the game was over.
The tired Eagles, who also beat San Diego Tuesday, play again tonight against the Kansas City Blades at 7 p.m. in the Salt Palace.
