Ascel M. Barnes, age 69, died peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, of cancer, February 12, 1991.
Born January 14, 1922 in Logan, Utah to Elmer Jack and Rosalie Golsan Barnes. He married Verla Keeler, March 25, 1941, in Los Angeles, California; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, May 2, 1968. An active member of the LDS Church, he served as executive secretary, ward clerk and Elder's quorum counselor. He loved to golf, read and to be with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren. His love and devotion to his family will always be remembered.Survived by his wife; three daughters and one son, Virginia (James) Petersen, Lincoln, Nebraska; Peggy (Stephen) Brown, Bountiful; Becky (David) Hesterman and Terry (Karren) Barnes, both Salt Lake; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Joseph Barnes, Willie Spring, Fern Barnett, Evelyn Howard, and Alice Waters. Preceded in death by brother, Arthur Barnes.
Funeral services Friday, February 15th, 11 a.m., in the Monument Park 5th Ward, 1930 South 2100 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Thursday evening 6-8pm, and at the Ward on Friday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
