Jer'E Brinkerhoff has been elected chairman of the Millard County Commission, the first time a chairman has been named from the east side of the county in more than eight years.
Through a special agreement, two commissioners are elected from the western sector of the county and one from the east. Brinkerhoff succeeds former chairman Mike Styler of Oasis, who was defeated for re-election by Lana Moon of Delta. Frank Baker is a holdover commissioner, residing in Delta.Commission assignments were also announced, with Baker responsible for the Road Department, Special Service District No. 8, landfill system, cemetery districts, drainage districts, building inspection, building and grounds, the Millard County Junior Livestock Show, boat dock and golf course. He will serve on the county weed control and mosquito district boards.
Moon will work with economic development, the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce, county fair, planning and zoning, library and bookmobile. She will serve as a member of the public health, mental health and West Millard Recreation Districts boards of directors.
Brinkerhoff's assignments are with the senior citizens, recreation (television), Emergency Medical Technician services, Fillmore Area Chamber of Commerce, risk management and insurance, tourism, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service relations, race track and county management. He will represent the county on the Six County Executive Committee and serve on the economic development, fire district and Community Development Block Grant Prioritization boards.
Commissioners will have joint responsibilities for west and east recreation districts, public lands, personnel management and matters pertaining to the Intermountain Power Agency. They will also serve as the county's tax commission and as the housing authority and hospital boards.
