The widow of U.S. Rep. Silvio Conte is considering running for his House seat, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

Conte, 69, a 32-year House veteran, died late Friday of a brain hemorrhage. He was a Republican.Corinne Conte, 68, talked with her family about running for her husband's seat and has told a potential GOP candidate, former state Rep. Steven Pierce, that she might run, The Boston Globe reported. Pierce is secretary of communitites and development for Gov. William F. Weld, who defeated him for the Republican nomination for governor.

No date has been set for the special election.
