Sheriff's detectives are investigating a report of a rape of a Cottonwood woman who said she was assaulted Monday night in the parking lot of the Snowbird ski resort.

The 38-year-old woman said she drove up the canyon to think over some problems she was having and parked her car in an area east of Cliff Lodge. About 8 p.m., a man began knocking on her car window. She told him she could not help him and rolled the window down a little bit.The man reached through the window and grabbed her hair, pinning her head against the window. He then unlocked the door, pulled her out of the car and into the back seat, according to a Salt Lake County Sheriff's report.

The man pulled out a 6-inch knife and began cutting her clothing. He then tied her up with her panty hose and raped her. At one point, the suspect walked off and she attempted to jump back into the driver's seat. But the man grabbed her, threw her to the ground and assaulted her again, the report said.

The woman was able to grab a large rock and she struck the victim in the head, knocking him down. She then bolted for her car and drove off.
