Joseph "Joe" Myers former Helper City Police Chief, died February 6, 1991.
Born March 23, 1908 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, son of Nick Myers and Maria Frkovic. Married Caroline Gorishek June 12, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She died July 25, 1989. Member of the Catholic Church. Graduated from Lincoln High School, Los Angeles, California. Served in the US Army, in Europe during World War II. Graduated Police Officers School, BYU. He played professional baseball for the Los Angeles Angels in the Pacific Coast league, later Chicago Cubs, Utah State, and Utah Industrial League. Joe joined Helper City police force in 1948, became Chief of Police September 1952, and retired from law enforcement in 1974. Member of Helper Post #21 American Legion, Utah Peace Officers Association, Utah Chief of Police, past president of Helper Kiwanis, past president Eastern Utah Police Officers; many other professional, civic, social and fraternal affiliations.Survived by one son and one daughter and their spouces, Dr. Max G. Morgan and his wife Dee Ann, Price; Jo Ann and Jim Maxton, Ft. Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Mike Myers, Burbank, California; Francis K. Myers and Ann B. Jackson, both of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Funeral mass Wednesday at 10 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper. Vigil service Tuesday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Chapel, where friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday prior to services. Committal services and military graveside rights, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Notre Dame Regional School, Price Utah or CEU Athletic Department, Price.
