It's official: Cold fusion researcher B. Stanley Pons has resigned as a tenured professor of chemistry at the University of Utah and has been appointed as a research chemistry professor for 18 months.
The action came as a routine personnel matter Monday during the monthly meeting of the University of Utah Institutional Council, the U.'s governing body.Last fall, when Pons left the U. for a then-unknown location, news reports speculated almost daily about the relationship between the U. and its star researcher. (Pons has since told the Deseret News that he's working in a laboratory in France.) Then, a class to be taught by Pons was canceled at the beginning of winter quarter, and the speculation began anew.
Several days later, the U. announced Pons' switch from tenured chemistry professor to research chemistry professor.
