The Utah High School Activities Association has reversed itself, sending East High School back to 4A athletic designation.

At the school's request, East earlier had been reclassified 3A because of a dwindling enrollment. However, the change caused considerable controversy, and last week the UHSAA's legislative council was polled by telephone, resulting in the switch back to 4A.

Lynn Davidson, Granite District Board member and chairman of the activities association legislative council, said the voting was near unanimous to revert to the 4A classification.

Although East coaches preferred the lower classification, many school patrons were concerned that placement of East in Region 6 would require a great deal of travel for games. The association said it was not feasible to group East in a region that was closer to home.
