Brigham Young forward Steve Schreiner, who led his team to a pair of victories last week, is the Western Athletic Conference basketball Player of the Week. In Women's play, Utah's Mikki Kane was also named WAC Player of the Week.

Schreiner averaged 27.5 points and 11 rebounds in wins over San Diego State (75-55) and Hawaii (82-74), as BYU raised its conference record to 9-3. The Cougars are in second place in the WAC standings, two games behind Utah.Schreiner's outings included a career-high 37 points against Hawaii. He had 18 points and 13 rebounds against San Diego State. For the week, he connected on 23 of 37 shots for 63 percent.

Others nominated for the weekly award included Utah forward Josh Grant.

Kane was named after leading the Lady Utes to wins over UTEP and San Diego State last week. Kane, a 6-foot sophomore forward, averaged 22 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks in the two games, helping Utah gain sole possession of second place in the WAC. Kane shot 55 percent from the field.
