Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, said that while traveling between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv he saw two Patriot missiles shoot "like Roman candles" into the sky to intercept an Iraqi Scud missile headed toward Tel Aviv.

Owens, in a telephone interview from the Tel Aviv, said he and Peter Huntsman, son of Utah industrialist Jon M. Huntsman, were riding in a van from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv Monday night when they heard a radio warning of a Scud attack.Owens said he and Huntsman got out of the van and donned gas masks while seeing the Patriot missiles rise "like two Roman candles" to take out the Scud.

He said he had a "front-row seat" as he watched "a shower of fiery debris" come down after one of the Patriots intercepted the Scud.

"It was very impressive," he said.
