An Ogden woman was charged Friday with child kidnapping after police found a 13-year-old boy in her basement who had been missing since Thanksgiving.

Marlene Stark, 42, was arrested Thursday afternoon after police entered her home with a search warrant and found Lary L. Stark of Ogden. The two are not related.Marlene Stark was arraigned on the first-degree felony charge Friday before 2nd Circuit Judge Pamela G. Heffernan, who scheduled a preliminary hearing Feb. 15.

She was being held in the Weber County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail after the judge denied a defense request to release Stark on her own recognizance.

The search warrant was issued on information police obtained after a photograph of the missing youth was published in a local newspaper, said Ogden police Detective John Panter.

Lary Stark was placed in protective custody with the Division of Family Services, Panter said, adding it did not appear the boy had been beaten or tied up during the 2 1/2 months he was away from his home.

The boy disappeared on Nov. 25, one day after Marlene Stark was asked to leave the home of Lary's parents, Larry and Rosemarie Stark, Panter said.

Marlene Stark, a family acquaintance, had been staying with the family for a short time before that, he said.

Panter said he received three phone calls from people who said they knew the whereabouts of Lary Stark after his picture was published in the newspaper.

Two of those people said they would attach their names to the report and a search warrant was issued.
