Utah Jazz star Mark Eaton, a trained mechanic, and his wife, Marci Eaton, a nurse, will be the main speakers at a Project 2000 seminar Wednesday, Feb. 13.
The seminar, titled "Jobs of the 1990s," will be held at the Davis Applied Technology Center in Kaysville at 7 p.m.Though Eaton is most recognized as a successful NBA basketball player, he is also a skilled automobile mechanic who will be sharing his views on the importance of vocational-technical education.
After high school, Eaton enrolled in an auto mechanics school and was later offered a basketball scholarship at a junior college. After earning a business degree at the college, Eaton attended UCLA on another scholarship.
But his mechanics training is not forgotten. He now puts his skills to work restoring cars.
Marci Eaton has a nursing degree from Los Angeles County Medical Center School of Nursing and has worked in California and Utah.
Mark Eaton's success on the court has been an unexpected extra for the Eatons.
The seminar, sponsored by the technology center and the Davis School District, also features Carol Berrey from the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development, and Kelly Matthews, vice-president and economist for First Security Corp.
