Finals of the Utah Metropolitan Opera auditions, held Feb. 2 in the Assembly Hall, yielded the following winners:

Tenor James Miller, 32, Salt Lake City, first place and $500; soprano Marie-Adele Black, 22, Orem, second place and $400; and soprano Martha Guiterrez, 29, Provo, third place and $300. These singers will represent Utah in regional competition March 2 in Arvada, Colo.Sopranos Linda Mugleston of Logan and Jill Hawkes of Salt Lake City each received $100 for the Sylvia Lerner Wollman Award. Judges were soprano Irene Dalis, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera, Utah Symphony associate conductor Kirk Muspratt and local voice instructor Heidi McKay.

- UTAH PIANIST MIRA GILL is the winner of the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale's 1991 National Young Artist Competition, held in Odessa, Texas, in January. As a result, she will be featured in two concerto performances with Midland-Odessa Symphony. Gill has performed on the Deseret News-Utah Symphony Salute to Youth.
