Sister Noel Marie Seitz, C.S.C., died February 3, 1991 at the age of 61.
She was born on January 23, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. After high school she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana and made perpetual vows in 1953. Sister earned her B.A. in Latin at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1957, followed by M.A. in the Classics in 1967 from Dominican College, San Rafeal and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She was engaged in the teaching ministry as an elementary teacher in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas; and as a secondary teacher of Latin, English and History in Mountain View, Boise, Salt Lake City and Fresno. She also gave service in Congregational administration and religious formation. She dedicated the last ten years of her life to retreat work and volunteer hospice ministry. Throughout her forty-three years of fidelity as a Sister of the Holy Cross, she shared her creative talents and great love for the beauty of nature with everyone whose life she touched. Sister's battle against cancer began in 1978 and she continued in active ministry until a year ago when she was hospitalized.Sister Noel Marie is survived by her sister, Anne Schultheis, of Colton, Wash.; her brother, Jerry Seitz, of Seattle, Wash.; five nieces and five nephews; two grand nieces, two grandnephews, and three step grand nephews.
Funeral mass and vigil service were held on Wednesday, February 6, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fresno, California. Burial was at St. Peter's Cemetery, Fresno. Remembrances may be sent to the Judge Memorial High School Scholarship Fund. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 670 South 11th East, SLC.
