Two transients are facing possible child-abuse charges in connection with the intoxication of a 10-year-old boy who collapsed and suffered head injuries at a downtown Salt Lake bus stop.

Witnesses told police that the boy was given a quantity of whiskey by transients as he was waiting for a bus Thursday night at 250 S. Main. The boy fell on his head when he passed out, according to police reports.Officers arrested the transients a short distance from the scene and confiscated bottles of whiskey and Everclear, which is a grain alcohol product with a high alcohol content. The two - a man and a woman, neither of whom is related to the boy - were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of child abuse.

The boy was taken to Primary Children's Hospital, where a doctor told investigators that the consequences might have been "life threatening."
