Salt Palace officials will have the ability to turn the house lights up immediately at any time during concerts, beginning with Monday night's show by the rap group Bell Biv DeVoe.

The building was rewired to allow such lighting after three teenagers were trampled to death in the dark during last month's concert by the heavy metal band AC/DC.David Meek, general manager of Spectacor, the company that manages the Salt Palace, will have access to the switch, as will two of his assistants, said Salt Lake County Commission Chairman Jim Bradley.

"They will have the capability to turn off the band, too," he said.

Because the style of music is different, officials aren't expecting the same types of problems Monday night that they would with a heavy metal band.
