Approximately 14 members of the Utah Air National Guard have been notified that they will be called to active duty Friday for assignment to domestic Air Force bases for up to 12 months, the Guard announced Monday.

Also announced Monday was the departure Sunday and Monday to Germany of the Utah Army National Guard's 709-member 1457th Engineer Battalion.Five companies from the battalion were called to active duty Jan. 25 and have spent time since then training at Fort Lewis, Wash., along with military counterparts from Great Britain. The 1457th's call-up is also for up to 12 months.

The battalion's wartime mission is to remove enemy obstacles and construct defensive battlefield obstacles. The engineers also build and repair roads and airfields.

The Air Guard members who are to report for duty Friday are members of the 151st Clinic, which includes doctors and other medical personnel who will be assigned to Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., and Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.
