The Defense Department has admitted denying combat pay and tax benefits to U.S. soldiers operating Patriot missiles in Israel and blamed it on a backup of paperwork.

Rep. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said at a Manhattan news conference Sunday that he will introduce a bill to get the benefits for the soldiers.Schumer said the Pentagon has "admitted there was a mistake" and that the cause was a failure to get the necessary paperwork done. "Understandably, they've had a lot on their minds," he said. "But this should have been done yesterday."
