Utah's No. 1 tourist attraction, the LDS Church's Temple Square, is more popular than ever, church officials say.
During July, a record 675,870 people toured the 10-acre downtown block, which includes the Salt Lake Mormon Temple and Tabernacle, said Joseph Horne, Temple Square director. That exceeded the previous monthly rec-ord set just one month earlier by more than 100,000 visitors, and it shattered the July tourism record of 496,959 people set last year.
Through the first seven months of this year, nearly 2.3 million visitors have toured the square, he said. That is 28 percent ahead of the number of visitors during the January-July period last year.
