Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor autographed a baseball for an admiring lawyer in West Palm Beach, Fla., but a man with a valentine never got close enough to hand it to her.
As O'Connor was eating lunch with 400 members of the Palm Beach County Bar Association in a hotel dining room Friday, hotel security men stopped a man carrying an envelope.A U.S. marshal and hotel security men took the envelope, but it turned out that all it contained was a valentine to O'Connor, said West Palm Beach police Sgt. John English.
The man was not charged.
"It's not against the law to pass a valentine to a Supreme Court justice," English said.
