Left-wing rebels, despite conditionally accepting direct peace talks, pushed on with a fierce offense that killed 12 guerrillas and two soldiers, authorities said Saturday.

The 12 guerrillas, all members of the Marxist Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC), died in five skirmishes with the army in various parts of the country Friday night and early Saturday, military sources said.Two soldiers who had been kidnapped by guerrillas were found dead Saturday in the southern region of Guaviarel, they said.
