The Weber State Wildcats are back on the road Thursday night to face the University of Idaho Vandals. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. MST.
The Wildcats are now 9-10 overall and 4-4 in league play. Weber has now won three straight. The wins and losses have come in bunches. WSU started out the season with a two-game win streak, then lost six in row. They then won four straight, then skidded into a four-game losing streak.The Vandals come into this week with an overall record of 11-8, and 5-3 in league action. Idaho is currently in second place, one-game behind league-leaders Nevada and Montana. The Vandals have won three straight games and are coming off an 83-72 non-conference victory over Southern Utah University last Saturday in Moscow. Idaho is 8-1 at home this season. The only loss was a 74-68 setback at the hands of Nevada in the opening game of the 1990-91 Conference season.
Idaho's Larry Eustachy is in his first season as a head coach. He had been an assistant at Ball State, Utah, Idaho and Mississippi State.
In the first game between the teams this year in Ogden, the Vandals raced out to a 43-33 half time lead, hitting 15 of 32 shots. In the second half, Idaho extended the lead to 17 (59-42), with 11:18 left. The Wildcats then went on a 28-15 scoring run, cutting Idaho's lead to three at 73-70. Idaho then hit five of six free throws to ice the game. It was only Idaho's fifth win ever in Ogden.
Clifford Martin (6-9 Sr. Forward) is no longer on the team. Martin left to concentrate on academics. Freeman has averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds over the past four games. Last Saturday vs. Southern Utah, Freeman had 18 points and 18 rebounds. The 18 rebounds is the best single game rebounding performance in the Big Sky Conference this season.
