A Salt Lake County man was critically injured and another seriously injured late Wednesday afternoon in a bus-truck collision. The accident occurred when Clarence Hill, 45, attempted a left-hand turn onto Campus Drive (7220 South) from 2300 East. Police said Hill turned his southbound pickup truck in front of a northbound UTA bus driven by Mitiela "Mitty" Suwai, 42, catching the bus's left front bumper. Firefighters from Sandy and Salt Lake County worked for 25 minutes to free Hill from the wreckage. He was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Utah Medical Center about 5:20 p.m., where he was in critical condition early Thursday. He suffered a fractured rib, two fractured legs and a fractured skull with head, chest and leg injuries, a nursing supervisor said. Suwai was trapped in the bus wreckage for 20 minutes, pinned between the driver's seat and steering wheel. He was taken by ambulance to Cottonwood Hospital, where he was in fair condition early Thursday with multiple injuries, chest trauma and a fractured left foot. There were no passengers on the bus when the accident occurred.
