To show support for troops serving in the Persian Gulf, the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Yellow Ribbon Day on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the University Mall in the J.C. Penney court.

A yellow ribbon ceremony will begin at noon with featured guest speaker Paul Meyer, who is on temporary leave from the Persian Gulf. He will share firsthand experiences of what he has seen. Both Provo Mayor Joe Jenkins and Orem Mayor Blaine Willes will express their support for the war effort.Following the ceremony, yellow ribbons donated by Orem Plaza Florist will be distributed to those attending.

University Mall and 96 Gold FM are also sponsoring a contest to encourage letter-writing to the troops. Students in local schools have been asked to write letters. The school that produces the most letters will be awarded a $100 gift certificate and other prizes.

Representatives of the various Armed Forces will be available to answer questions. The Army Reserve will bring a Valentine to be signed and sent to the troops in the gulf. The Vietnam Veteran Center and the American Legion will have booths.
