The American Freedom Coalition of Utah paraded through downtown Salt Lake City Wednesday promoting a Saturday rally at the Capitol and announcing a plan to give financial assistance to needy military families.

A motorcade of five cars decorated with flags and yellow ribbons promoted a rally scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday on the Capitol's south steps.Pamela Kuhlmann, the group's executive director, said many conservative Utahns support the U.S. soldiers serving in the Persian Gulf but aren't inclined to show their support without encouragement. Wednesday's promotion was intended to encourage attendance at the rally.

Kuhlmann also announced the coalition's plans for a financial support program called "Share the Burden" where donations will be solicited for distribution to families suffering financially because a family member is serving in the Persian Gulf.

Beginning Feb. 15, applications for the funds can be made at local VFW posts, where military families in need will be selected to receive a check, usually for $100. Donations toward the program can be sent to "Share the Burden" in care of the American Freedom Coalition of Utah, 555 S. 300 East, Suite 21, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.
