Charles W. Johnson, associate professor of philosophy, and Paul Wheeler, associate professor of electrical engineering, have been named Spring Quarter Honors Professors by the Honors Program at Utah State University.
They were chosen by a committee of faculty and students.Nominations were solicited for faculty members to teach one-time courses of their choice for students in the USU Honors Program.
Johnson will offer "Philosophy in Science Fiction." The course is a counterpart of Philosophy in Literature, and the participants will consider major philosophical issues as addressed in literary works of science fiction.
Wheeler will offer "The Science of Sound." The course is a mix of physical science, humanities and engineering with a touch of life science and social science. It uses mathematics at the algebra level for solving problems addressing physical acoustics, psychoacoustics, acoustics of musical instruments, the voice, electroacoustics, architectural acoustics, electronic music and environmental noise.
