The body of a missing American missionary was found in the smoldering wreckage of a small airplane that crashed in a dense and remote Indonesian jungle, according to reports Monday.

The body of Tom Benoit was cut from the wreck of a Cessna Skywagon 185 owned by the Mission Aviation Fellowship, and airlifted for burial in Jayapura, the provincial capital of Irian Jaya, Indonesia's easternmost and least developed province, the nation's largest daily newspaper Kompas said."The cause of the crash is not yet known," said Awaluddin Harahap, the head of commercial aviation service in Irian Jaya. He said that the Cessna crashed Saturday, 10 minutes after taking off from the Irian Jaya town of Nabire on a routine flight.
