Telephone solicitors who call Utahns and offer them the deal of a lifetime had better be legitimate.

The Utah House approved a bill Monday that would enable any party defrauded by deceptive telephone solicitation practices to collect a maximum $2,000 civil penalty for each "illegal transaction."Sponsored by Rep. Donald LeBaron, R-Highland, HB139 declares that the collection of the civil penalities is not exclusive to any other cause of action.

The bill was approved unanimously and forwarded to the Senate for further consideration.
