A South Summit art teacher was to be arraigned Tuesday on charges he showed pornographic videos to students and attempted to fondle one of them.
Franc E. Nichols, 46, a teacher at South Summit Middle and High schools, was arrested Monday after an investigation by the Summit County sheriff's office, said Aloma Ercanbrack, a paralegal in the county attorney's office.South Summit School District Superintendent Mark Littleford said he couldn't comment on the incident but would release a prepared statement later.
Nichols is charged with three counts of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, all third-degree felonies, and one count of attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, Ercanbrack said.
Nichols was arrested at the school, incarcerated and later released.
A complaint charges Nichols showed pornographic videos Wednesday and Thursday to three male students and also alleges Nichols attempted to fondle one of them.
The arraignment was scheduled in Coalville's 3rd Circuit Court in front of Judge Edward A. Watson.
